They are modeled after the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in the U.S. state of Connecticut, founded by Paul Newman in 1988.
The camps serve children who are seriously ill, including those with HIV/AIDS, Sickle-cell disease, cancer, and other serious illnesses. All programs are free to both campers and their families.〔
Between 1988 and 2013 (inclusive), SeriousFun Network camps have served over 337,000 children from over forty countries.
